Seasonal sense: Using scent, sight and sound to stimulate holiday spirits

Posted: Tuesday, November 15, 2011 7:00 pm
(ARA) - From baking cookies with loved ones to caroling through the neighborhood or celebrating with family and friends, fond memories of holiday traditions abound. Each year, scents, sights and sounds promote the season's spirit - continuing long-standing traditions and creating new memories.
Here are some ideas for stimulating your senses and evoking the warmth of the holidays in your home:
Savoring seasonal scents
Home fragrances create a warm, inviting environment during the holidays and all year-round. A whiff of a familiar scent often calls to mind memories of holidays past. The scent of cinnamon and vanilla conjures thoughts of freshly baked cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, while a blend of evergreens, cedar, and musk reminds many of Christmas tree hunting in the woods.
One of the safest ways to recreate holiday memories is with scented, wickless candles With no wick and no flame, there's no worry or mess. After selecting a favorite seasonal fragrance, it's easy to place a cube or two of the scented wax into a decorative, ceramic candle warmer. Just one whiff and you are on your way down memory lane.
"A festive, welcoming atmosphere stimulates our senses and reminds us of holidays past as we celebrate with our family and friends," says Heidi Thompson, president and co-owner of Scentsy, a leader in home fragrance. "A home filled with classic holiday scents not only evokes memories but inspires new seasonal traditions for young families."
Behold the sights
Twinkling lights fill the indoor and outdoor landscape during the holidays. To capture the spirit of the season and add a shimmering glow to any room, consider a simple string or two of miniature lights strung along a mantel or displaying a holiday-themed wickless candle. From snowmen to Santa, there are festive designs in all shapes and sizes to complement any decor.
Sounds of the season
The sounds of the season create happy holiday memories. Adding traditional tunes from Bing Crosby or modern interpretations from Harry Connick, Jr. can set the mood as you decorate your home, entertain dinner guests or simply escape the hustle and bustle of the season. Music creates a cheerful atmosphere and often encourages listeners to sing along.
Enjoying the scents, sights and sounds of the season is simple. To learn more about how to fill your home with festive fragrances and decorate with wickless candles, visit

Why join my Scentsy Team??????

Scentsy was founded by two Utah homemakers and then sold to Orville and Heidi Thompson.  The Thompson’s moved the company to Meridian, Idaho.  They adopted a direct sales model, and watched revenue climb from $140,000 in 2004 to $535 million in 2011

Many Idaho companies issued a fair number of pink slips during the recession.  But Meridian-based Scentsy didn’t.
Instead, the wickless-candle maker grew.  It’s ranked among the country’s most promising companies by business magazines like Forbes and  In just seven years, Scentsy has become a multimillion dollar enterprise.

Scentsy is very popular in the west and south but is creeping its way to the north east . Being on the ground floor of introducing this wonderful product to millions of people can be very exciting!!!

Some Candle Industry statistics show that..

*Both men and women consider candles to be an always-acceptable and highly appreciated gift for a wide variety of occasions.

Product Review..Layers Body Butter

I just wanted to take a quick minute to highlight one of Scentsy’s phenomenal new products – Body Butters. Admittedly I was not much of a lotions and potions gal before we came out with the new Layers body line. But what kind of consultant would I be if I didn’t at least try, right? Use it every day. Our product description says: “The perfect solution for extra-dry elbows and knees. Our super rich Body Butter contains moisturizing aloe vera and soothing shea butter for instant relief. 6 oz” It now comes in twenty delicious scents like: Awakening , Luna, French Lavender. And for the boys: Rt.66, Vanilla Suede, and Zeppelin.

In addition to the wonderful moisturizing qualities, many a customer have testified that they use it as shaving cream for the legs, head, neck and other parts and love, love, love the smooth feel and clean results it produces.
What are you waiting for? You simply must give Layers by Scentsy Body Butter a try.delivered right to your door, then I’d love to hear your opinions.

10 uses for a Scentsy Scent pak

The length of time a Scentsy Scent Pak lasts for does vary depending on the fragrance but I'd say you easily get three months out of them and some of them last much longer.
My sister has had a Sweetpea Vanilla Scent Pak in her Scratch since last Christmas!

Scent Paks are perfect for bringing life and fragrance to your Scentsy Buddy but they can be used for so much more.
Here's my top ten uses...

Scent Pak on a coat hook

1. Put it in your Scentsy Buddy (of course!)

2. Hang it in the car or put it in the glove box

3. Put it in your laundry basket

4. Hang it in a closet or on a coat hook

5. Hang it in the bathroom

Refresh smelly sneakers

6. Put it in a dresser drawer

7. Hang it in your locker

8. Put it in a gym bag

9. Put it in a hand bag or briefcase

10. Put it in the vacuum

When there is no scent left at all they make great bean bags too. The best thing about these lovely Scent Paks,, is how versatile they are, you can take them with you everywhere you go. They make great gifts and come in a range of scents.

Scent cool!

A new program that identifies an up-and-coming fragrance note or trend for 2012. The ScenTrend fragrance note of 2012 is Pink Pepper, a complex, comforting and contemporary scent that is fruity, floral and a little spicy, too. Pink pepper is a berry from the Peruvian pepper tree, and is not related to traditional black peppercorns–but it does have a peppery or spicy quality.
Scentsy Bar can be mixed with other Scentsy Bars to enhance the scents you already know and love. The pink pepper notes will be recognizable, creating a unique twist to the primary fragrance by adding a fresh and feisty burst of fragrance.
Many fragrances found in Scentsy’s 2012 Catalogs can be mixed. Just look for the ScenTrend icon  in the catalog or on your Consultant’s website to explore them all and inspire your own fragrance creations!

Factoids about Direct Selling

This is for those of you have considered joining a direct marketing business. These statistics show that you CAN be successful! Factoids about Direct Selling

All articles are free to use as long as you keep the author bio intact and provide a live link to the Thriving Candle Business website
Those on my team know I am a numbers junkie.  I’ve always enjoyed analyzing data. I firmly believe that if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.  It’s been said before that “In God we trust, all others bring data!”
The information contained below was snagged from DSA’s Direct Selling 411 Website.  I found some of these statistics interesting – and hope you do too.
  • 77% of sellers have been with their company 1+ years
  • 80% of sellers say direct selling meets or exceeds their expectations
  • 85% of sellers report a good, very good or excellent experience with direct selling
  • 74% of US adults have purchased products from a direct seller
  • 15.1 million people in the U.S. are involved in direct selling
  • $29.6 billion in total US sales
  • $114 billion sales worldwide
What is the primary reason you became a direct seller?
  • To earn supplemental income (51%, 4,231 Votes)
  • To earn full-time income (34%, 2,768 Votes)
  • To buy the products at a discount (9%, 729 Votes)
  • I like to be recognized for my accomplishments (4%, 292 Votes)
  • I like to meet other people (2%, 208 Votes)
Direct sellers report a positive experience with direct selling:
  • 82% of direct sellers have been with their current direct selling company for one year or more, and 34% for five years or more.
  • 88% of direct sellers rate their personal experience in direct selling as excellent, very good, or good.
  • 85% of direct sellers say that direct selling meets or exceeds their expectations as a good way to supplement their income or as a way to make a little extra money for themselves.
  • 91% of direct sellers say that direct selling meets or exceeds their expectations as a business where the harder they work the more money they can make.
The average annual turnover rate of direct sellers was 56%, compared to 53% for the retail industry.
If I become a direct sales representative, how much money will I make?
The earnings one can expect to make in direct selling are different for each individual based on a number of factors, including your personal goals and the amount of time you plan to dedicate to your business. The median gross income for a direct seller is about $2400 per year, or $200 a month. This figure is consistent with one of the major motivations for getting involved in direct selling – supplemental income. About 8% of direct sellers earn more than $50,000 per year.

Using Aromatherapy in Home Decor

It's a fact that our sense of smell triggers emotional responses. Just yesterday at work someone heated something in the microwave for lunch and I instantly thought of the canned dog food that we feed our dog. When I smell coffee, my mind wanders back to childhood summers spent with my Aunt Nora and Uncle Jim, and their warm kitchen filled with the strong aroma of fresh ground coffee beans and warm toast ready for butter and jam. The smell of fresh-baked banana bread makes me think of grandma, while the subtle bouquet of Heaven Sent perfume has me thinking of my mother.
I use aromatherapy not only at home, but also at work. My office desk has a tart burner and each morning when I arrive, I light a tart to evoke a feeling of wellbeing. Sometimes the scent might be that of warm apple pie. Other times, a slight floral scent lingers in the air. At home, I often burn cinnamon candles in the living room and study, while infused oil sticks of vanilla in the bathrooms lends a calming and pleasant air.
Here are some specific scents that you can use to alter your mood within your home decor, using aromatherapy:
  • Energy. If you've had a long day, but you've miles to go before you sleep, then use mandarin oil to energize a room. Find a mandarin orange candle, tart, or spray and allow the revitalizing scent to energize you to conquer the next hurdle of the day.
  • Stress. To relieve stress, use spearmint-scented products to envelope a room. Bedrooms and a home office or study will benefit from the smell of spearmint to help allay stress, as will the scent of eucalyptus.
  • Sleep. Vanilla and lavender are two of the best scents to make a room conducive to sleep. Place a bamboo diffuser of vanilla infused oil into your bedroom and allow the stresses of the day to melt away as you fall into a restful sleep.
  • Sensual. If you want to spice things up in the bedroom with your partner, light a candle or tart of jasmine. The heavy scent of jasmine will lift your mood and turn an otherwise boring evening into a memorable one.
Play around with different scents in different rooms, and use several types of vehicles for the scents. Use candles that match the decor of your living room, tart burners in your kitchen and dining room, and bamboo oil diffusers in your bathrooms and bedrooms. Choose containers that match the colors and themes of each room.

A Tisket, a Tasket what's in a Scentsy Party Basket?

Scentsy Basket Parties. What are they? I get this question a lot. In a nut shell they are a great way to share Scentsy with folks who are unable to hold a house party, or live out of town. Most, know about home parties where you invite over some friends and the Scentsy consultant presents the items. The products are there to see, smell, sample and purchase, if they wish.

It all starts with a container of some sort. This could be a tote, a basket, or some small type of carrying case. Then you fill it with Scentsy products. You definitely want to include the scent testers. The mini ones are less expensive to mail and replace, if something happens to them. A few from each category should be fine. Include order forms and catalogs, and don't forget some Join brochures.

If the baskets are hand delivered, pack your basket with other goodies, like scent paks, samples of a Layers product, maybe a plug in, travel tin and room spray. Anything you think that the hostess may want to see. Keep the ones you mail away basic. Catalogs, order forms and join brochures, with some mini testers. It's always a good idea to inventory what you send and make sure you and the hostess each have a copy.

Make your basket available for friends and family to earn free and half priced Scentsy. The hostess must sell $150.00 worth of product to earn the free and half priced product and all will get free shipping! The hostess can take her Basket party with her to the office, school, and wherever else she may wish to share. IMPORTANT!!! Remind hostesses that the wax will melt in the car during warm weather

Here are some online pictures of basket parties to help you get ideas for your own baskets. Have fun, be creative!

What a great idea!  Host a Basket Party.
If you would like more information about hosting a Scentsy basket party, or joining Scentsy please feel free to contact me at or my website
